About the Opportunity:
A fully licensed Bistro has been operated during the summer season by the winery for the past several years. The Bistro attracts visitors arriving on the Island by private boat, ferry and seaplane. The Bistro has a 120 seat capacity and features lunches to complement the Island produced wines. The Bistro already has in place lunch packages with Sea Air and Eagle Wing Whale Watching.
For the 2013 season (June-October) the Winery is seeking a qualified person to lease, on financially attractive terms, and operate the Bistro.

The successful candidate will possess experience and skills in operation of a restaurant specializing in lunches and wine pairing, ability to hire and manage staff and responsibility for ordering supplies.

Wine Tele-sales Representative

About the Position:
Saturna Island Family Estate Winery is seeking additional professional Wine Sales Representatives who will be interacting with existing clients and creating new accounts by calling new customers from an extensive database of liquor stores, hospitality and entertainment industries. Applicants must have a pleasant and highly professional telephone manner combined with a natural ability to provide excellent customer service. Knowledge of food and wine service industry along with good keyboard skills will provide a distinct advantage. This role will involve representing our portfolio of premium BC VQA wines to most regions in BC and may expand to establishment of sales to other Canadian provinces.

Based in Company's Vancouver head office.
Your duties:
- Managing inbound and outbound calls and inquiries
- Achieving weekly sales targets, liaising with existing accounts and establishing new accounts
- Professionally representing the Company in order to improve distribution levels
- Researching required information using available resources
- Handling and resolving customer complaints and completing follow ups
- Processing orders, forms and applications
- Completing call logs and producing call reports
- Managing database of clients
- Assisting with marketing
Requirements:
- Sales experience preferably in wine industry
- Proficient in relevant computer applicants (e.g., Word, Power Point, Excel, Internet)
- Good keyboard skills, pleasant telephone manner and professional appearance
- Knowledge of sales principals and methods
- Knowledge of customer service principals and practices

Vineyard Worker

About You:
You have a passion for hands-on work in nature; are reliable and self-motivated; have professional manner and appearance, can demonstrate good communication and conflict resolution skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team. You are organized, punctual and result-driven with good track record of professional experience in similar positions.

Compensation:
$12.50/hour.
Your duties:
- Assisting the viticulture and oenology team with all aspects of vineyard work such as, pruning, shoot thinning, tucking, mowing, harvesting, operating and maintaining equipment and machinery (training provided if required).
Requirements:
- Recent experience in similar positions
- Valid driver’s license; having own vehicle preferred but not required
- Flexibility to work extra hours during high demand season and some weekends according to workload
- Able to complete repetitive and physically demanding tasks outdoors in different weather conditions
- Able to provide void check or account info for direct wage deposit into a bank account

Harvest Intern

Our microclimate is unique to the region, and is described as similar to the northern Mediterranean. We are committed to producing wines of superior style and quality, wines that exemplify our unique terroir and climate.
About You:
You are committed and enthusiastic, personable and reliable with a good work ethic and have the desire to build skills and knowledge for a future in the wine industry. The position provides a perfect learning experience in a supportive environment and involves performing a wide variety of duties in both vineyards and production center, details of which will be discussed at the interview. We will provide initial and ongoing training as well as accommodation for the eligible interns.
Term of Employment:
Seasonal, full time.
Duration:
August to Mid December 2013 with possibility of extension.
Compensation:
$11.50/hour.
Your duties:
- Assisting the winemaker with all aspects of winemaking process (e.g., wine transfer, racking, barrel operations, filling, topping, calibrating instruments, preparing solutions)
- Performing other tasks as assigned
- Assisting the viticulture team with all aspects of vineyard work during the harvest
- Following safety policies while working with equipment
- Collecting and processing cluster grape samples and assisting with grape harvest
- Analyzing juice, wine and grape samples in the lab for Brix, TA, pH, etc.
- Logging, tracking and organizing data
Requirements:
- Have Viticulture or Enology degree or coursework (preferred) plus hands on experience in wine industry
- Have great analytical skills to perform basic lab analysis, trials, blends, calculations and chemical additions (training available)
- Be able to complete repetitive and physically demanding tasks indoors and outdoors
- Be flexible to work longer hours and some weekends according to the workload and during the harvest
- Be able to provide void cheque and show SIN card and valid driver’s license; own vehicle preferred
